25 Songs, 25 Days (Day 18) A Song I Love but Rarely Listen To

Did you ever notice that you can go without hearing a song for years, and still know all the words?  I fell in love with this song the day I got frostbite on my thighs sledding all afternoon with my friends.  I had not seen anything like it before or since.  White frozen patches like huge welts under the skin.  I sat on her basement couch in terrible pain waiting for her to call the nurse for advice.

As we followed the medical instructions, my friend took out the cardboard cranberry-colored record jacket.  “The Partridge Family” was printed in the center in gold lettering.  While the white patches on my legs turned a burning hot red, we listened to that track over and over until we knew the words by heart.

To this day I can sing along, and still do every couple of years.
