When it comes to streamlining kitchen chores and maintaining sparkling clean dishes, the best dishwashers are essential appliances that combine efficiency and convenience. These modern marvels of kitchen technology are designed to handle even the toughest grease and grime, ensuring that your plates, glasses, and cookware emerge spotless and sanitized with minimal effort on your part. Whether you prioritize energy efficiency, noise levels, or advanced features, the top dishwashers on the market offer a range of options to suit your specific needs, making dishwashing a breeze.
But, having a dishwasher doesn’t automatically solve all of your dirty dish woes, a recent study finds. A recent survey of 2,000 Americans found that the average household experiences 217 arguments over doing the dishes during the course of only one year, regardless of the method. This is nothing new for those of you with kids, careers, and a busy schedule to navigate.
At the end of a long day, the last thing any of us wants to do is tackle that stack of greasy, dirty, grimy dishes left over from the night before – right? Not necessarily. Another survey of 2,000 American millennial moms found that more than half of them can’t enjoy a meal if dirty dishes are still present in the sink. Similarly, nearly two-thirds of respondents can’t even go to sleep at night knowing that their kitchen isn’t clean, and their dishes aren’t washed. Now, that’s some serious dishwashing stress. Still, it remains apparent that not everyone shares the same mentality about having a clean kitchen.
Another survey of 2,000 Americans asked about their dishwashing, kitchen cleaning habits, and the amount of time a dirty dish can “acceptably” sit untouched in the sink. The study found that the average American allows their dirty dishes to sit in the sink for nearly two whole days!
To stay on top of the pile in the sink with little hassle, the best dishwashers can help you get the job done right, hopefully without any arguments. StudyFinds did the digging, consulting 10 household and appliance review sites to discover the best dishwashers available on the market today. As always, feel free to share your recommendations for the best dishwashers in the comments section below!
The List: Best Dishwashers, According to the Pros
1. Bosch 300 Series Dishwasher
Finding the best dishwasher to claim the top spot wasn’t too difficult. Experts across the board agree that the Bosch 300 Series Dishwasher is the best dishwasher available on the market. This brand claims the top spot for its winning combination of performance, size, and general affordability. “If you’re looking for the most bang for your buck, the Bosch 300 Series won’t disappoint. Based on our evaluation, Bosch is one of the most reliable dishwasher brands,” writes Best Products.
And the good news is the Bosch 300 Series is a family-friendly model that offers plenty of versatility. “This Bosch dishwasher is well-designed, and it’ll look great in any kitchen. If you don’t want curious kids fussing with its outer control panel, you also have the choice of a bar-handle variant. All 300 Series models are spacious, quiet, and energy-efficient, and they offer plenty of cycles,” adds Best Products.
There’s nothing worse than a noisy dishwasher distracting you from a quiet evening or a family dinner. With a Bosch 300 Series, you won’t have to worry about noisy rinse cycles interrupting your peaceful evening. “Among its cycles there’s one that washes and dries in just one hour and another that sanitizes. The Bosch 300 is so quiet that it projects a beam of light on the floor to let you know it’s running,” explains Tom’s Guide.
Perhaps the best part of buying a Bosch dishwasher is the way this company stands by its products. “Bosch dishwashers have an industry-wide reputation for providing unmatched cleanliness and top-tier performance,” writes This Old House. “When you purchase a Bosch dishwasher, your product is covered for up to one year for parts and labor. This figure is standard across the industry, but some manufacturers will offer longer benefits. If you’re looking for a top-performing dishwasher with a strong brand reputation, shop for the Bosch Series 300 today.”
2. Miele G 7156 SCVi SF Dishwasher
The next appliance to make the list of best dishwashers is the Miele G 7156 SCVi SF Dishwasher. Although Miele might not be the most well-known name brand on this list, it produces some of the best dishwashers available today. Miele is an upscale brand focused on providing homeowners with high-end products such as dishwashers, washers, and dryers. Miele’s commitment to quality shines through in its products.
“The Miele G 7566 has a few special features that I haven’t seen in other models — most notably, the WiFi connectivity and preset times so you can start the wash cycle even when you’re not home. It also features a QuickIntenseWash, which cleans and dries dishes in 58 minutes, compared to the average normal dishwasher cycle of two hours,” raves Insider.
Miele went all out with this dishwasher by loading it with more features than we can even attempt to list. “The layout inside is fully customizable, offering a height-adjustable section for smaller items and a width-adjustable section for wine glasses and other stemware. An innovative dosing system senses and dispenses the optimal amount of detergent for whatever you are washing,” explains Forbes.
This model definitely made an argument for the top spot on the list of best dishwashers, too. One of the only aspects holding it back in the eyes of the review sites is its lack of an NSF approval rating. Still, this unit came up in the top spot across a few of the expert sites we visited.
“Miele dishwashers always top our tests for performance and ease of use, and this model with its hidden top controls is no exception. It’s not only stylish but, more importantly, it’s a real workhorse when it comes to cleaning, plus its innovative features make it easy to use,” writes Good Housekeeping.
3. Whirlpool WDF520PADM
The third item to make the list of best dishwashers is the Whirlpool WDF520PADM. This simple unit comes in a few different finishes and is touted by experts for its affordability and performance. “The Whirlpool WDF520PADM has an unbeatable price but will still get your dishes sparkling clean and hey, that’s why you’re buying a dishwasher. It’s a nice-looking unit, especially if you opt for the stainless-steel finish,” writes Tom’s Guide.
The Whirlpool WDF520PADM might not be the fanciest-looking dishwasher available, but its performance is so impressive that it appeared on nearly one-third of the lists we consulted. “Many very good dishwasher options are available in the $500-to-$600 range, but for less than $500 for a full-size appliance, Whirlpool offers a reliable, no-frills model with over five figures of positive ratings, that still includes many of the amenities of the popular Bosch dishwasher above,” explains CNET.
Unlike some of the models on this list, this affordable Whirlpool dishwasher is NSF certified, which is a big deal for anyone looking to kill all of the germs. “It has fewer cycles than some machines, but the ones you get are super useful including a one-hour express setting as well as a sanitizing one that’s been certified by NSF, which means an outside agency has verified that it will actually kill germs. At 55 dBAs you’ll be able to hear it when it’s running, but it shouldn’t interfere with homework or after-dinner conversation,” adds Food Network.
4. Frigidaire FFID2426TS Dishwasher
The next spot on the list of best dishwashers goes to the Frigidaire FFID2426TS dishwasher. This 24-inch model is extremely budget-friendly while being highly effective at getting your dishes clean. Frigidaire also makes a smaller version of this model designed to fit in tighter spaces. This dishwasher is an excellent combination of affordability and performance, making it one of the best dishwashers you can buy at this price point.
“Coming in with the most affordable price tag on this list, the Frigidaire 24 inch FFID2426TS offers enough space to wash as many as 14 place settings at once. It also has a built-in stainless steel food disposer to limit the odor and maintenance concerns of debris-compacted filters,” explains This Old House.
The built-in food dispenser comes in handy for those of you who need to wash one or more loads per day. This Frigidaire model is also available in several different finishes to match your kitchen design preferences. “The hidden control panel and stainless steel exterior provide a sleek and modern look to your kitchen, and although it lacks a smudge-proof finish, this does make it easier to match to your other stainless appliances,” adds Insider.
Several of the lists we consulted had this unit ranked as the top dishwasher at an affordable price. And, although it’s an affordable model, that doesn’t mean it’s not effective. “At an affordable price, you get a machine that not only cleans and dries well but comes with lots of high-end extras, too. The control panel is hidden for a sleek look, it’s very clear and easy to use and it includes a ‘favorite cycle’ that, once programmed, selects your preferred options with one touch,” explains Good Housekeeping.
5. LG LDP6810SS Smart Dishwasher
The final spot on the list of best dishwashers goes to the LG LDP6810SS Smart Dishwasher. This LG Smart unit is both energy-efficient and extremely user-friendly. The LG Smart model dishwasher connects to wi-fi and can be controlled with your mobile devices. “Thanks to the LG ThinkQ mobile app, users can communicate with the dishwasher using their smartphone. This allows you to monitor the status of the cleaning cycle in real-time, and lets you know exactly when its finished and ready to be unloaded. This app also allows you to actually download different wash cycles that are specialized for a range of washing needs,” explains Insider.
This LG Smart dishwasher is frequently voted as one of the best smart dishwashers available on the market, nothing new for the folks at LG. But, that top billing as the best smart dishwasher means nothing without performance. “Beyond the technological bells and whistles, the dishwasher also uses a powerful water stream that tackles stuck-on food while extra steam technology prevents water spots on dishes,” writes Forbes.
And this LG Smart model includes some really neat features that make loading and unloading your dishwasher a breeze. “What differentiates this dishwasher from its competitors, apart from its smart capabilities, is its interior LED lights that automatically turn on to give clear visibility so you can see that tiny teaspoon that has fallen all the way down the back without having to switch your phone’s flashlight on to find it. It also has smooth gliding rack wheels that allow you to slide the baskets in and out effortlessly using just a finger,” adds Better Homes and Gardens.
